Nettle Infusion

An infusion is brewing herb(s) in water. If you have ever drank a cup of tea, you have enjoyed an infusion!

Using nourishing herbs (such as wild weeds) to create overnight infusions is a beautiful ritual and amazing way to flood your body with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and transform from the inside out.

The first time I experienced an overnight nettle infusion was unforgettable. The moment it hit my lips, I swear I could feel my cells healing and celebrating!! The taste is so earthy - I can’t get enough.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Put one handful of dried nettle into a quart glass jar/mason jar/press

  2. Pour hot water into the jar/mason jar/press

  3. Close the lid tightly/cover and let infuse overnight!

  4. Strain in the morning and refrigerate. Drink within 36 hours.

Many herbalist recommend enjoying an overnight nettle infusion everyday for one month during the spring to replenish and nourish. Trust the wisdom of your body. Perhaps your body only desires an infusion 1-3 times per week!

HARVESTING/SOURCING

I am in nettle heaven on Salt Spring Island. If you are in an area where you can harvest them, keep these considerations in mind:

-Wear gloves! The leaves and stem are covered in stinging hairs

-Only harvest from an area where the soil has not been contaminated. Away from road pollution. And away from walking paths where dogs may have used the washroom!

-Cut the top third of the plant

-Always ask permission from the plant to harvest it - if it says “yes” - leave an offering in it’s place

-Never over harvest! Be sure to leave the area with lots of nettle still growing

-Spring and early summer are the best times of year to harvest nettle

*After you have harvested, hang or lay to dry and then cut and store in jar out of direct sunlight.

If you can’t harvest your own - no problem! Your local herb shop will most likely have them, or these online sources:

-Mountain Rose Herbs

-Harmonic Arts
