Why Stowel Lake Farm Is the Home of Our Sacred Pause Retreats

Tucked away on 115 lush, healing acres on Salt Spring Island - the ancestral and unceded territory of the Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples - Stowel Lake Farm is more than just the venue for our Sacred Pause Retreats—it is part of the medicine. This land holds a legacy of intentional living, deep restoration, and community connection, making it the perfect sanctuary for the kind of healing we hold space for.

A Living History of Healing and Connection

In the mid-1970s, Lisa Lloyd arrived at what was then the old Reynolds Farm with a dream: to live simply and in deep relationship with the earth. Over the years, she transformed the property from a humble family farm into a thriving community and wellness hub—nurturing sheep, berries, gardens, and eventually, a vibrant space for yoga, meditation, and gathering.

The original farmhouse became “The Gatehouse,” a cozy retreat for practices of inner stillness. The barn evolved into a welcoming space for shared meals, song, and story. Every corner of this land has been touched by hands and hearts that understand what it means to care deeply.

That legacy continues today—and we are honoured to bring our retreat work into this space that already carries so much soul.

Why We Chose Stowel Lake Farm for Sacred Pause

When we dreamed up Sacred Pause, we knew we needed more than a pretty backdrop—we needed a place that feels like exhale.

A place that invites your nervous system to slow down.

A place that welcomes your healing without question.

A place where you can stop performing and start breathing.

Stowel Lake Farm offers just that. Surrounded by forest, organic gardens, and lovingly tended spaces, it holds you in a quiet kind of safety. You can feel it the moment you arrive: the land wants you to rest here. To return to yourself. To remember your wholeness.

Sacred Pause: A Retreat for the Healing Heart, Body, Mind & Soul

Our Sacred Pause Retreats are for women and non-binary folks navigating recovery—not just from substances, but from the invisible wounds that often go unnamed:

  • Burnout

  • Grief

  • Anxiety

  • Perfectionism

  • The slow ache of losing yourself

Over the course of our time together, we gather in circle. We move gently. We nourish with plant-based meals. We remember what it means to belong to ourselves again.

Held by the magic of Stowel Lake Farm, these retreats become something more than a getaway. They become a return—to the body, to the breath, to your truest self.

If your soul has been whispering, I need space..., this is your invitation.
